I've never shopped at Aldi's but they own Trader Joes so what do you think? Is there hope for us?

Aldi's? As in cut rate grocery stores with questionable produce and meats, where you have to bring your own bags/boxes and pack up your groceries yourself?

That's what Aldi's was when I was growing up. Even my mom, who was the queen of bargain grocery shopping, wouldn't buy meat or produce at Aldi's. Yuck!

eew. well, I'm actually less interested in seeing an Aldi's here. I'm more wondering if that means Trader Joe's is coming since they tend to be linked.

Default German Owned Aldi's

According to my son who lives in Germany, Aldi's is a family owned business. It is owned by two German brothers that jointly own Aldi's, but each brother owns a separate food store entity, one being Trader Joe's, which we know in the states. So even though Aldi's may appear in Austin, unless the TJ brother decides to invest separately, it won't happen. Not sure if all that is exactly right, but seems like they are missing out on a good thing in Austin.

My information which certainly isn't concrete: the reason there isn't a TJoes or one reason has to do with the warehouse situation. Now with Aldis this could be a different situation. I guess all we can do is hope...

LOL. Competition is always good for consumers. I cannot understand why someone would think more competition would be a bad thing. I do miss Trader Joe's fabulous simmer sauces and exquisite chocolate/candy selection.

No, you see, I'm a lifelong Texan. Maybe if I moved to, say, California, I would be endlessly moaning about not having HEB.
