Round Rock named nation's second fastest-growing city (http://www.impactnews.com/round-rock-pflugerville/recent-news/5020-round-rock-named-nations-second-fastest-growing-city - broken link)

Quote:
Round Rock is the second fastest-growing city in the United States, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report released July 1. The city grew 8.16 percent between 2007 and 2008, second only to New Orleans, which has grown significantly in the last two years as people return to the city following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Round Rock’s population estimate as of July 1, 2008, is 104,446, an increase of more than 7,800 since the previous year. Four Texas cities ranked among the nation’s top ten fastest-growing communities, including McKinney, Killeen and Fort Worth, and four were among the largest numerical gainers: Houston (third), San Antonio (fifth), Fort Worth (sixth) and Austin (ninth).
Austin rated only 9th, good for us, we have had quite enough growing pains for awhile. I suggest those of us on the forum start recommending everyone move to Round Rock.

I have not visited Round Rock in years, sounds like I need to come see what all the excitement is about!

The only thing about that is, many choose to live in Round Rock but work in Austin. That's commuter traffic and Austin's impacted by the growth. What we get are complaints about our roads not accommodating traffic.

You mean Austin downtown, right? because Round rock sits adjacent to Austin city limits.

Well Round Rock is home to the largest private employer in the metro area... so I'm not really going to knock them for the commuter traffic. At least for Round Rock, it truly does go both ways.

It does kind of make me sad that now Austin joins the DFW and Houston metros in having a mega-sized (over 100K) suburb. San Antonio, El Paso, etc, don't have anything close.

Cedar Park, Georgetown, and Pflugerville will hit 100K within 10 years in current growth patterns continue. Cedar Park will be there faster but they are somewhat limited in available land. Leander could be there in the foreseeable future as Cedar Park runs out of land. Williamson County will be the twin county to Collin Co in the DFW area if not already.

Anything that brings traffic in on Loop 1, IH35 or any other major artery that navigates into the city limits and roads within the city once they get here. I'm not knocking the growth, just saying that it will impact Austin.

Fair enough. I live in Cedar Park, ride my bike 8 miles to work in Austin so I think I'm off the hook on this.

People moving to Round Rock probably makes traffic worse on I35. You ever get on I35 going North during rush hour?

That's great. And, I realize people do what they have to do to get where they need to go. At least they have a job
