My Time Warner internet bill increased from $46 to $56 this month, a 21% increase. I called and asked about this and they said it's an across the board increase for customers not locked into a contract.

My bill is:
$43.39 Roadrunner
$09.99 Turbo
$02.39 Taxes

$56.37/mo. total

The TW service is fairly fast and reliable, but we do have ATT Uverse in our neighborhood, which would be my only other option.

Has anyone switch from TW to ATT? Curious how the services compare with regard to reliability.

We have ATT home and business phone lines and the TW internet (we don't watch cable tv), so I imagine there is some sort of bundle deal available. But it looks like a similar internet service (High Speed Internet Elite) would be $35/mo.

Any feedback on people who have made this switch, or are knowledgeable about the ATT service would be appreciated.

Steve

Well I was looking at switching from ATT because they just raised their rates too, only by $5. I think the quality of ATT is better (I've had both), the price comes out to be pretty darn close between the two of them.

We use it with Vonage for phone and it works great.

Don't watch TV.... I think that is the problem Steve :-)

What about Clear? I heard that's pretty good. I think it's around $30 a month.

I have had ATT DSL (Austin), ATT Uverse (Austin), and Time Warner (in Houston and College Station). My personal experience in terms of reliability, is that TW was the worst and DSL and Uverse are about the same (a step above Time Warner).

I currently have Uverse and am happy with the internet service.

We have AT&T Uverse for TV and Internet. and are very happy with it. We use Magic Jack for a home phone. Have At&T for cell phones, also. Wouldn't go back to cable.

I have the ATT elite dsl for $35 a month and I have been very satisfied with it! Fast enough for what I work with and very reliable, we've had it for maybe 6 years and I can't remember an outage.

You didn't think your bill would stay the same after that TW v. Fox standoff, did you? I think it was pretty unwise of Fox to try and pull that during a recession, knowing full well who would pay for it in the end, but there you have it.

I pull my HD tv off the antenna. Looks better than compressed HD (which is what you're getting from cable companies), 95% of what we watch is local, and Netflix ($15/month) supplements any movie interests we have. I pay Time Warner $30 a month for internet and that's it. When I find a cheaper solution to that, I'll ditch them, too.

Is ATT the only Fiber Optic provider in Austin?

Here in NJ, I switched from Comcast cable to Verizon Fiber Optic that includes HDTV, Phone and Internet. What options are there for similar service in Austin and what does it normally cost? I pay $180/mo for all three services here.

Just to clarify, I was asking about internet only. I don't subscribe to any cable tv, dish, etc. We watch what we get on the HD antenna, which is plenty for my needs.

I checked with some of my neighbors and there is no clear consensus on whether ATT is better than TW, at least where we're located. Each have their complainers and fans. Kind of weird actually.

Thanks for the feedback.

Steve

If you're going internet only, I'd consider going AT&T DSL instead of uverse... You said you have AT&T land phone lines already... just throw the DSL on top of it. We had AT&T DSL at three different locations, never had a single outage/blackout, everything was always great with them. No need to bring in U-verse when you can pull in DSL without much additional overhaul. I think you'd get the same speed with DSL and you would with U-verse. You might be able to get u-verse for internet only but it's not a very common thing...

Plus at least the DSL would be on your existing bill... if you went with u-verse, you'd get two separate bills (a slight nuisance).
