Not a bad idea. After all, this is Texas - better than California fern bars, lawn croquet and the like.

I understand the opposing views, and I do appreciate any construction work brought to Austin. However....having said that, I still don't think this is a good fit for Austin, and do not believe it will work like some here believe it will.

Respectfully Disagrees....

Besides Formula one, there will be ALMS, motoGP, aussie supercars, the concert venue, the research facility, and various biking and running events planned. The facility is not just being used over F1 weekend. I'm excited for what this means to Austin and the state of Texas.

I agree. Even Dell Diamond hosts things in the off season...Reckless Kelly Softball tournament is one thing that comes to mind.

I think if the folks who do the Olympics coverage could be the ones that produce the F1 TV feed here in the states, they'd have no problem building a huge US fan base.

Every 4 years, I figure I could care less about the Olympics.. yet somehow the TV coverage sucks me in, and I end up watching a bunch of athletes I don't know competing in sports I don't really care about against opposing nations I feel no rivalry towards. And enjoying it...

F1 has it's drama and storylines too, but the TV feed for all races comes straight from FOM central and is really not geared in any way towards a US audience. I think if they did any research, they'd realize that most of the TV that works in Europe doesn't work in the USA (and vice-versa) without some major modifications.

That is not a surprise. In fact, it's the status quo for F1 in the USA. It's been riddled with failed attempts that didn't materialize or fizzled out.

Which just makes it that much more amazing that COTA is far along as it is. Doing anything F1 related in the states is very, very difficult. Should they pull it off and make a profit, it will essentially be doing the impossible -- and in record time.
