Have to laugh, there is so many Aussies so worried about boat people who are of course all Muslim. Yet the vast majority of illegal immigrants to Aus are yanks and Brits who arrived on a visitors visa then just stayed on. Time for a Aussie ID card with DNA registered at birth ? Had to laugh at one illegal immigrant in NZ, he whined you cannot throw me out I have been here ten years

I know... Lol.. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, especially when filled with vitriolic jealousy over a much larger and wealthier neighbor

Are you sure NZ''ers aren't included in that category?
Nothing against our Kiwi neighbours, but they get in even easier than Brits on working visas, and often stay under the radar.
Australia is very lenient on over-staying your visa, places like Singapore you can get caned for this offence.
Boat people are often subcontinental people (eg Sri Lanka) who are not Muslims.

I think kiwi Aussie haters should be thankful that Australia exists. Otherwise they would not have a country to which they can take out their venom. NZ would also have to find jobs for the 30,000-40,000 kiwis who move to Oz every year who would now be stuck in NZ unable to find decent jobs with liveable wages. I'd pity the kiwi sheep, with all those extra people not leaving and needing some loving. Good thing there are more sheep than people.

Aussie gains a lot of Capital outflow from NZ and many highly skilled workers for free, and sure some not so skilled workers for jobs like mining, just like the Aussie work force.

As a Kiwi all I can say Its up to the Aus government to change the agreement and yet they never do for some reason hmm, all I can say is great idea do it

NZ gains a lot of Capital inflow from remittances from citizens on their OE.
Their economy does not have the strength to provide good living wages for all their citizens (as evidenced by the lop sided flow between Oz and NZ).
NZ would be in heaps of trouble if the AU government decided to treat people from East Tasmania differently.

Not up on the NZ/Australia work arrangements so forgive me for asking but are Australians permitted to work and live as easily in NZ as Kiwis seem to be in Australia???

It's part of the CER agreement so it can't really be restricted. The benefit is clearly weighted toward NZ. Australia has no problem filling its highly skilled migrant program with or without NZ.

All Australia has to do is drop the CER agreement then Kiwis could not go and work and live in Aus. For some reason Australia is not prepared to do that.
