I can understand it. I loved Melbourne when I was there for work, a week or so at a time. I also have family out that way and have visited it often. Lots of fun. Lots to do. Vibrant. Sydney's all that too but in a different way.

Pretty good for Oz though - 4 cities out of the top 10.

I sort of have issue with "liveable" being seen as the ultimate ranking for a city in general. It's been brought up by some others here but there are so many other factors that make living in a city enjoyable and fulfilling other than its supposed "livability" which is a very abstract definition.

I feel some people get carried away with these rankings and make it seem like "livability" is the end all be all to how a city stacks up.

Only a tiny portion of the world cities were even considered, makes this list kinda pointless.

Add in these are the same economists (amongst thousands of others) that didn't see the GFC coming, you have to wonder why anybody should care what they have to say.

Melbourne is pretty nice, however most liveable city out of all the world cities, I doubt it.

I can feel an economist joke coming on!

An economist is like a guy who knows 100 different sex positions but doesn't know any girls. Boom!!!
