I am sure all of you Down Under saw that YouTube or news of a scrub python which attached itself to the wing of a Qantas airliner flying to a South Pacific destination. It "boarded" the aircraft at Sydney, so it must have been near the airstrip. It fought for its life up in the sky, but ultimately did not make it.
With that in mind, what kinds of bizarre or dangerous animals could one expect to see pop up in one's back yard or pool in Sydney's outermost ring of suburbs? I know that the beaches are netted for sharks, especially if there is a competitive sporting event under way.

Any insight?
It didn't board in Sydney. They don't fly Dash-8's from Sydney to PNG. Infact they don't fly any planes from Sydney to PNG. The flight left either Cairns or Townsville.
Most beaches are not netted, and the ones that are netted only have nets on the bottom to stop shaks becoming territorial. Sharks really just aren't that interested in humans.
If you live on the North Shore, there's a good chance at some point you'll come across a Sydney funnel web spider. If you live in the outer suburbs, there will be snakes around. But in Sydney you're pretty unlikely to ever see a snake or anything more than a house spider.

Spider - poisonous? Snakes - poisonous? Are these the kind whose bite is not easily overcome, even if one is in the ER in 15 minutes?

It depends on whether you live near the bush or on a bush/semi-rural property. Funnel-web spiders are probably the scariest thing you will probably encounter. They are probably the deadliest arachnid in Australia. Most snakes here are deadly venomous, though, so bare careful when treading round in the bush, stick to the paths, watch where you step and make plenty of noise.
I wouldn't worry greatly about shark attacks. You're more likely to be knocked down by a car.

Thanks. Very detailed. How close are the salt-water crocs to Sydney?
Help me out. Never been there. How far north of SYD, preferably in " 'merican" miles?
1,000. It's basically like worrying about alligators in NYC.

Sydney funnel web is the most venomous in the world. No one has died since an antidote was discovered. They are very rare south of the Harbour. I've never seen a funnel web, or a snake in Sydney.

There's no poisonous snakes or spiders here Rob. You could eat them all day long Plenty of venomous ones though.
Sorry...!!
In my 20-odd years in Sydney I had plenty of encounters with Red Back spiders, only a couple with Funnel Webs (all in a very leafy/bushland area in the city's North) and the rare Carpet Python.
On the outskirts of Sydney Ive come across Red Bellied Blacks, but that's about it. The wildest animals I ever encountered were in the heart of the city, had two legs and a gut filled with alcohol...
