Can an ECM be rebuilt or do I have to replace it?? (plugs, buy)

Used ecm are programmed to car but reprogramming. Cost 75$to 200$ depending on fees of. Shop. Definately more cost effective also many ecm rebuilders can send preprogrammed to your vin number hope this helps

ECM can also mean Electronic Control Module.

Upscale newer cars can have 40 to 70 different electronic control modules and 3 separate computer "local area networks".

So the question is which ECM is having the problem?

Then next is where is that ECM located?

I would not go back to that KIA dealer..NEVER . I have never known of the central ECM being related to an air conditioner blowing warm air..If that is your only problem and no check engine light is on you just need to have the ac checked..BUT NOT AT THAT DEALER...

The Kia might have an ECM for control of body functions, AC and climate control, windows, radio, wipers, etc. If so it is likely programmed to the vehicle and if you swap it for a new one your security functions won't work. So you could possibly swap out the ECM (although it might be more properly called a BodyControl Module) live without security and remote locking and swap out the now dead radio for an aftermarket unit or have it reprogrammed. BTW you can't rewrite GM BCM's so if that goes TU you get to buy a new one and pay someone with a Tech II programmer to write it to the ECM.

I've been reading everything and want to ask....I have a 1996 Chrysler Town and Country that is not firing on all cylinders and have done everything except replacing the ECM and wiring harness leading to it. My question is......I can find a used one for $90, but will my van run when it is installed?

ditto. Have 2nd opinion. Never heard of ECUs having much to do with heat and climate control unit. Someone is trying to Dairy Queen you.
Usually it's a simple mechanical reason - air locked hose, blander door not working, or climate unit itself, or heater core is plugged.

Anytime you buy a used computer that is 5+ years old and it has 100k miles you are just thorwing your money away because most are worn out and ready to stop working... Unless it is brand new from the dealer or rebuilt like mine and come with a great Lifetime Warranty your just wasting time and money.. The dealer gets between $500-$1,200 average and mine cost half that or less and they give a 10,000 mile or 1 year warranty and they barley make it.. Mine last for a lot longer and if it does fail and you didn't burn it out with a short or something like flood we will repair it or if cost allows replace it...
