But the roadster platform has already been resurrected by the Miata and BMW.
A little aside as an FYI...
I hate what marketing has done. Roadster is an actual bodystyle, and none of the new convertibles are roadsters. They are cabriolets at best.
Roadster is a 2 door car with a folding/removeable top and snap in side curtains. Roadsters have no roll up side windows. For a long time, manufacturers made roadsters right alongside cabriolets (or drop-head coupes for the British). There have been a few true roadsters made recently (the original Viper RT/10 comes to mind), but the Miata is not a roadster, no matter how much the engrish marketing tries to make it one.
This is like the bodystyle known as the Phaeton, which is a 4 door roadster (also known in the early days as a "touring."
Most of the early british sports cars were true roadsters, which is why the term got confused with small sporting cars. Some true roadsters:
Of course that's correct. but it's also being way too strict with the term.
Roadsters evolved to include cars with glass side windows.
That would mean no MGB was ever a true roadster, etc.
No company is ever going to attempt to market a roadster with soft side windows today.
BTW....my friend owns a Porsche 356 B that is not a Speedster - it says "Roadster" on the back end and it has roll up side windows. It's a Speedster with a more refined interior (leather) and window cranks.

My first car was a 59 Porsche 356A Cabriolet with leather interior and roll up windows. Not a Speedster.
Britain, first and foremost, should continue to TRY to build a reliable car. Jaguar improved under Ford, but just about everyone else improved quality even more.
After they get that right, give us a nice roadster.
British cars of all stripes have been little more than charming stationary decor for 50 years. Two times they promised that they had quality under control and two generations of enthusiastic consumers squandered money on cars that depreciated to near zero in just a few years because, frankly, the cars were such junk they had no secondary market. Despite my English ancestry and my love for almost all things English, they have lost the right to another try.

Now, we are going to compare raodster and cabrilet bodystyles, in the same model. Look carefully at the door and vent window differences:
Austin Healey 3000:
Jaguar XK140:
Porsche 356:
'32 Ford:
Hey you forgot the most powerful Roadster ever to be imported from the British even though it did arrive here minus the engines.

Pushing it down the interstate is part of that British charm thou.

Well there's always that one exception....my 2004 Jaguar X-Type has 100,000 on the clock and has been rock solid.
