For almost all purposes, and especially including hauling seven people, a minivan is much better and more practical than an SUV.

True on cost. We are getting a dose of reality and thinking we might have to spend 8k instead of 4k. We can get a really good interest rate at the CU and end up with a very small car loan but we really wanted to just pay cash. I have seen a few Trailblazers and Envoys for 8k with around 60k miles on them. Thanks for answering my question because I wasn't so sure about the Envoys either. I found an older blazer, a 1999 I think for 6k with 40k miles on it. It was a clean truck. This car buying crap is not as fun as it used to be.
