The dominant reason is that traffic tickets are mostly an administrative process to raise revenue. If the lawyer can structure a plea that still provides revenue, the court is happy.

The reason lawyers are more effective at getting better deals is b/c it is more efficient for the court to deal with lawyers than with each person who was ticketed; therefore, the courts often incentivize the public to go through lawyers by offering different plea structures through counsel.

I was pulled over today doing 70 in a 45 zone. I did not realize I was going that fast. I've never been pulled over before or have I ever gotten a speeding ticket. This is happened in North Carolina and is my first run in with the law. What should I do?

My son was pulled over in Hickory NC for going 76 in a 55 zone. We are from Georgia and have to drive back to Hickory for court. Therefore, we are considering an attorney. How can we find out the average cost for a traffic attorney in Hickory?
