Apologies for what must be the most boring question posted for a long time.

There are three of us heading for the US later in the year and we will be picking up a hire car.

The choices are limited and there were a couple of cars that caught my eye- the Buick LaCrosse and the Dodge Charger.

Question is, will the trunks of these carry three suitcases or do I go the route of an SUV or a Towncar?

Also, are they a decent ride?

Or do I leave the girls behind and get a Shelby Mustang?

Almost any vehicle sold in the US will accommodate three adults and their luggage easily. The LaCrosse is a rather large car and is the very typical near luxury American car.

Bring the girls, forget the luggage and get the Shelby Are you renting or hiring a limo? If hiring a limo. I'd go with the town car

If you rent a car, they usually give representative models but do not guarantee a specific model.

You are reasonably likely to get a larger car than you requested, (at no additional charge) especially if you request a small one.

When you arrive, know what you want with respect to collision damage waiver, prepaid/ not prepaid gas, and accessories. If you seem to be unfamiliar with the process they will spend a long time trying to upsell you.

Those are both fairly large cars, and unless you show up with an excess of luggage you should be fine.

Doesn't the rental car company provide luggage capacity estimates on their site?

The LaCrosse is large? I must be getting old, because to me a large car would be something like a Cadillac DTS or BMW 7 series.

Back to the LaCrosse: it looks like it would be good for three people and their luggage, but IMO - and I'm really not trying to sound like a male chauvinist pig here - that only applies to three guys. Because in my personal experience, guys usually bring much less luggage than women.

BTW Buick has been re-creating itself the last three years or so, so if anyone says that brand is for "old people", tell them to check out reviews of the latest Buicks (I grew with them and admit I'm kind of biased towards them!).

Hopefully you can get the Charger with the 370HP 5.7 HEMI V8. You'll have a blast in it.

You can't put 3 adults in a Shelby or any Mustang unless they are very small adults.

If you guys are going to WGI in June rent three Shelbys.

The Charger is taller, wider and longer then the LaCrosse and rides on a 10" longer wheelbase, giving it more rear seat room. On the luggage front, the LaCrosse's trunk is abysmally small for a sedan in that class as it only has 10.8 cubic feet of volume. The Charger by comparison has roughly 50% more trunk space at 15.4 cubic feet.

If space is your ultimate goal, then the Charger is the best choice.

That's what I thought. Edmunds car review highlighted the poor size of the trunk in the LaCrosse.

I know that the Towncar is a bit old fashioned but it's a dying breed and I might go for it for that reason, though I realise the other two are a more modern ride.

Thanks for the replies from you all.
