Apples to Oranges. PM was illustrating techno advancements. A 5.7 is well over twice the size of a 2.4. Take the #'s on that 2.4(200/186) and multiply it by 2.38 and you would have 476/372.

Again, apples to oranges. We could say that 10 people could be carried in 2 Optima's using less total gas than that 1 Suburban would use. It's ridiculous to try to make a direct comparison between these 2 vehicles.

which besides being grossly incorrect is just a stupid thing to say. That's why I quoted only that phrase in my previous response to you. I didn't care anything about how perfect your Volvo supposedly is. I was remarking on how ridiculous the quoted statement was. Do you really think your rebuilt Volvo is better than most every car any of us own? Does that sound like a sensible thing to say?

Two other things-I don't own a Hyundai. No idea where you got that. And completely rebuilding a common everyday driven automobile (when not necessary, as you admitted) simply to bring it up to it's original condition is also a bit silly, don't you think? All that money and time spent...imagine what could have been. Pour enough time and money into anything and you can reach the desired result. It's not much of an accomplishment.

EDIT-You're just full of wild insults, aren't you-

I can fully understand why people, who don't know cars, would want a new/newer car. It makes perfect sense.

Here's a great reason why we would want a newer car. Because we want what older cars can't offer, whatever that may be. Simple answer. Some of us don't look at vehicles as appliances simply to get from A to B, or constant projects. The money doesn't matter.
Boy, somebody is touchy tonight!

Go ahead and spend however many tens of thousands of dollars are necessary to make you feel like you're better than the next guy. Meanwhile, I've got a grand total of $3,500 in a car I'll be driving LONG after your image-mobile is no longer good enough for you.

There are those of us who don't need a vehicle to define who we are.

Each vehicle has its place. I've got an AWD Grand Cherokee, but with $4.00 per gallon gas, I don't drive it much. On the other hand, when it's time to go through snow, there's nothing like it.

It isn't always just about image or getting comfort features, George. Items such as Stability/Traction Control, ABS, Airbags, TPMS, etc. are important to many people and they can't be retrofitted to an older car.

I'm going to let George continue to make up whatever he wants then comment on it as if it were actually true. That seems to work best for him, and I should just stay out of his way.

Y'all have fun.

But for people who know cars, and/or who rebuild cars, it's an entirely different story.

In 35+ years of driving, I am absolutely positive that I've saved well over $100,000 by simply driving older cars. Works for me!
Yes, And think of all the energy with reduced carbon footprint is saved by the COMPLETE consumption of each car!

But be sure to make snarky little third person comments.

Oh, and don't forget the facepalm.

Limited slip differential. Check.
ABS. Check.
Airbags. Check.
TPMS. An expensive, unnecessary item that often malfunctions. Not everyone wants it. I check my air pressure with a gauge.

You are aware, aren't you, that SAFETY has always been one of the main selling points of Volvo? I fully understand the point you're driving at, but let's not act like all older vehicles are just suicide machines, and anybody who drives one is an idiot.

I inspect the undercarriage 100% with very bright lights each and every spring to monitor brake lines, heater/A-C hoses etc. If I find anything even questionable it gets replaced.

The whole inspection process takes me about 30 min once I can get it on a lift.
