My first car was a 1983 Chevy Chevette. I bought it new back when I was a poor young teenager. Paid 6400 out of the door. Red 2-dr 5spd manual w/ black interior. No A/C or power anything. 100% manual. The only options it had was the 5spd and cloth seats. It was the greatest car I've ever had. Finally gave it up after nearly 20 years of ownership.
My first car was a powder blue '69 Mercury Montego..ran about 3 years and the drive shaft fell out in the middle of a busy commuter highway (Route 18 in Central Jersey). First new car I bought was a turquoise 1979 Chevy Chevette, with no A/C, 5 speed and a grill that looked like a waffle iron. $4400 out the door.
First car: 1967 Rambler American Wagon with a 6-banger and a three on the tree. This car was duller than a butter knife.
First truck: 1972 Ford F250 Custom Camper Special with a 390, four speed. four bbl, dual exhaust, manual brakes, manual steering, AM radio, and bias ply tires. What a pig.
First hot rod: 1971 Pinto Hatch back with a transplanted 302 V8 and auto trans out of a '68 Fairlane GT. It did 13 seconds in the quarter mile when it was all done.
Mine was a 1977 Chevy Vega in bright orange
Got it for a great price since no one in our conservative little town wanted a car "that ghastly color"
The thing sucked as much oil as gas, but I loved it.
I also went on to own:
Ford Pinto (hanging head in shame)
Buick Skyhawk
Obviously price was my main consideration back then.
