Hello all,
I got a 99 Civic a few months ago that has a Kenwood Cd player installed in it. Everything has worked fine up until tonight. I usually take the face plate off and hide it in the seat pouch when I park the car. Tonight I pulled the face plate out and put it on the stereo and it failed to light up. It is as if the unit is not getting any power at all. I checked for damage to the plate and stereo but didn't see any and turned the car off and restarted it but still the stereo isn't getting any juice. Could it be a fuse? What are your thoughts? THX
Could be a fuse, either the main power wire (usually on a switched 12VDC source) or the memory power wire (usually on an unswitched 12VDC source such as the cigg lighter circuit). A loose ground wire is another possibility.
It could also be the pins on the face not making contact - they do wear out from removing and installing the face.
I know this may sound silly but did you hit the off button on the face plate? Pull the radio out and see if the connection is still tight. How did you connect the wires(black tape, solder, or butt connectors? )maybe one of those came lose. Like Deez said, check your fuses. There are two fuses, one under the hood, and one in the car. The hood is number 47 and the one in the car is number 28 if that helps.
Start easy first. Check the fuses. Check the connection pins of the faceplate and the in-dash deck. Maybe even clean them. Wiggle the face when installed to make sure of good contact. Push "on" button (or however you turn it on) when faceplate is attached. If nothing, then pull out and make sure the wiring is still sound.
Ok so it's working now. I switched the fuses from the stereo and the cigarette lighter. Both visually looked good. I also pulled the backup fuse under the hood and it looked good. I hit the reset button and the stereo worked when I put the face plate back on. The cigarette lighter is working also so I'm assuming all fuses were good. Any thoughts on what the culprit was?

Maybe you shorted across two of the faceplate pins when you last tried to put the face on. This caused the unit to go into some kind of protection, and your pushing the reset button corrected it. Or some version of that.
I have a couple weird things that happen in my car (and home, and dozens of client's homes) occasionally. There's no good explanation for any of them, and troubleshooting is a matter of replacing things until the problem doesn't occur any more. Sometimes it's just not worth it.
Will my car die if there's a noise coming from my deck. Like the sound of the face part going up and down but my deck ain't even in? It's acting up tonight and can't get it to the shop till tomorrow. Please help, I'm a female that knows nothing about this lol :/
Thats not really a "shop" thing unless your car is still in warranty. Otherwise its something simple but you need to explain better what you are talking about.
