Not a "sexy" choice, but a 1997 Saturn SL. I bought it from a guy in 2002 for $3,500 (I think he had some troubles financially--clean title and all, he was the first owner, but that was far under normal value).

I kept it 13 years, put over 200K on it (it's at 250K now). Only significant repairs were an A/C back in 2006, and a clutch two years ago. Got 33-36 MPG as well.

It has met its demise due to broken rings. Letting it go today.

My favorite truck was my 08 Tundra double cab with the 5.7L, after driving trucks for over a decade, I tried out a new Audi S5 Quattro. It's a lot of fun.....first day I drove it, I got a ticket doing 95, and it seemed like I was driving slow at the time. Really have to make sure I don't go way over the speed limit. I take the car out almost every weekend, to drive a few different canyon roads early in the morning. I wasn't really into cars, but this car is pretty fun to drive.

My best has probably been an '03 Focus.
220,000 miles on it and all we ever did were basics like oil, brakes and tires.

My favorite, though, was a '99 Chevy Tracker. Five speed, that thing was SO much fun!
(Had to trade it off when we got our Powerstroke, though)

'03 Ford Ranger Edge, 3.0L V6, automatic. The most reliable vehicle I've ever had. 136000 mile and not a single issue, drives like new, EVERYTHING is original besides spark plugs, oil, tires, and wiper blades. It gets only highway miles and occasional bags of mulch from Home Depot.
