Let's assume a power outage, so none of the lights would be illuminated. I can't find a statute or rule that specifically addresses this in Maine, so I presume it would be considered an uncontrolled intersection in that case, and those rules would apply.

What about where you live? (Name the state)

You treat it as 4 way stop sign intersection. It can get very tricky on major 4 lane with turn lanes intersections but so far, and we have tons of outages here in WA, everyone is being very mindful and respectful of others. Scared driver is a good driver.

We tend to resort to a 4 way stop in that situation. Texas. But then that can get tricky because technically there are no written regulation/rules regarding 4 way stops (who goes when, etc) here in Texas. Go figure.

Virginia. It's treated as a 4-way stop.

I live in California.. People do not know how to drive most of the time.. And when they are faced with a situation like this they do what comes naturally.. They all try to go at the same time.. Or not even STOP at all.....

4 way stop in ga. I would hope that this is treated the same in every state.

The worst is when a major highway has malfunctioning lights flashing yellow at an intersection and red for the cross traffic. There are always people who stop at the yellow instead of proceeding through cautiously. The cross traffic sees it as a 4-way stop.

4-way stop in NY too.

Although a scary number of drivers do not seem to know or realize this!
