My first car was a 1972 Cadillac Sedan DeVille and I wouldn't want it now because it was wrecked in an accident eight years ago. Stands to reason that if it exists in any corporeal form presently, it's either a shell that has been picked clean for parts or it is a crushed hunk of metal.
Would I want another '72 SDV in the condition that mine was in when I got it? Sure. I loved that car. It'd suck having to feed it these days (it got 10-11 mpg city and 13-15 mpg highway), but maybe I'd eco-mod it so that it would do better... either that or I just wouldn't drive it much. That car was a tank and it had all the room a guy could need... plus it was cool with a capital COOL to be driving an antique car when you're 19 years old.
My high school car - 69 Camaro. Bought it used in 78 with 50k miles on it, for $1450. 327 auto, AC, Hugger Orange, black vinyl roof, front air dam, rear spoiler. Kept it for years, even though I generally had a second car that I used as a daily driver.
My first car was an 87 Camry that already had 160k miles on it. It actually held up for quite a while after that but I don't think I could go back to it, even if it was brand new.
No. 1987 Mercury Lynx. Bought brand new - bottom of the line, no radio, no power steering, no power windows, no AC. It didn't even have a passenger side view mirror. It got me from point A to point B for nine years, but that's about it, but certainly no in comfort or style. No thanks.
YES! Mine was a 1960 Metropolitan I bought for $125 in 1968. It ran okay for a British car, was in pretty good shape for it's age, and used the 28 cent per galon gasoline I put in it sparingly. It was ugly and slow, so I kept it about a year. Today Metropolitans go for thousands of dollars. That was definitely a car I never thought would ever hit classic status. The Metropolitan was imported by American Motors, so I guess Chrysler would have the rights to it. With the success of retro cars like the Mini, New Beetle, and Fiat 500, maybe Chrysler should look into a retro Metro!
