Try getting anything "fixed" or taken care of at other dealerships and they say sorry sold As Is..
Very true. I bought a used 99 Subaru Forester from a Subaru dealership that supposedly went through their 128 point inspection or whatever. They explained it was current on maintenance and everything was in tip top shape. I specifically asked about the head gaskets because it had just over 100K miles. They said yes. I bought the vehicle and when I got home I looked under the vehicle and noticed coolant as well as oil dripping. This wasn't there when I left the dealership which leads me to believe they cleaned underneath before they brought it out. I had an independent mechanic look at it and both head gaskets were leaking and it was also leaking oil from the oil pan. Needless to say, I took it back to the dealership and returned it under their 3 day return policy. When I explained to the sales manager why I was returning it, his only reply was "Well, what do you expect for a $4,000 car. Of course it is going to be leaking fluids." It then took over 3 weeks to get my money back. I'm just glad I checked out the vehicle on my own.
They just made me a purchase offer on my 2004 CR-V with 61K miles of $9,000. This is in line with Kelly Blue Book trade-in and is double what the game-playing scumballs at the local dealership offered. I plan to sell at Carmax even if I buy elsewhere. I think theirs is the business model of the future. Do Not Want all the time-wasting bs at the traditional dealers.
Honestly, whether it's Carmax, Toyota dealership, Honda dealership, etc....don't expect to get your car's worth if you sell it to them or trade it in. They will offer you several thousands of dollars off from what you can sell it for yourself. If selling it yourself and meeting with a few people is not worth your time in making several thousands of dollars more...by all mean, sell it to a car dealer. I don't about you guys but I don't make thousands of dollars an hour so I rather sell the car myself and pocket the money.
As for buying from them. Oh Hell freaking no! You can find the same car elsewhere for $3-$5K less.

On the other hand, if your car is worth $20K+ it is very difficult to sell it privately. In that price point, people need a car loan with all the complications and delays that go with it. You are also in competition with new cars. Private sales are best for $5-10K cars.
I wonder how many Carmax employees are in this thread.
Just because some people are truthfully and discount the BSers doesn't mean they are employees..
Your BS meter is pegged..
