I know there are a lot of people who think good things have come out of the government placing mandates of all sorts on the auto industry. Why not force them to build hybrids only?
Think of how much rare earth metals would need to be extracted to make enough batteries. That alone would do much more damage than the marginal efficiency gains by hybrids.
That would likely drive auto dealers out of business as most people would never replace the non hybrid they actually want to drive, would be a boost for the parts/repair industry though.

A lot? Did you ask me? No...

It would certainly cause a crisis in this country. The value of used cars would go up. Car manufacturers would start going into bankruptcy. Gas stations would become abandoned. There would be fighting for batteries. Tesla would make more money even without his battery plants in operations. There would be riots, perhaps like the gas shortage in the 70's.
My only question would be what would they call the movie? "Godzilla in a Hybrid"? "Kong Takes Over BP"?

why not mandate that you eat grilled chicken with broccoli every meal???????
if you like mandates, you should move to Iraq. lots of mandates being imposed over there now.
our government lacks the legal authority to mandate such a thing. that doesn't really stop them but its the truth.
