Probably as many as Toyota, Dodge, Etc.

About just as many times that wall street and the big banks. But you forgot about them. They were one reason that GM had to do what it did. Money dried up people were not buying cars and trucks. Trucks are a big part of GM sales. And with the housing crises construction companies stop buying trucks, and the high gas prices had a big impact also. People are always eager to blame the company, but don't consider the outside forces that help to contribute to there problems. All I here about is GM what about Morgan stanly, Jp Morgan, and wall street as a whole. What about there bailout money. We don't know if it was all paid back. And how do you know that GM did not pay it all back, do you work for the treasury dept. give it a break.

Good luck finding much on the money Japanese makers got from Japan. They've kept it pretty quiet. Chrysler was also bailed out by Reagan in the 80's.

GM never left. GM is making record sales because they are giving consumers what they want simple as that. The haters always claim that its "fleet sales" because that is all they can think of I just got back from the supermarket and saw a lot of gm cars, suvs, pickups, vans etc i guess those are all fleet sales. lets say just for sake of argument fleet sales are the reason for increased sales...so what?

Do you think businesses want to buy unreliable vehicles ? no way it would hurt business if company vehicles are down. So they go to GM for quality and dependability common sense really.

Chrysler was bailed out by Carter, another s#@&head that inhabited the White House. Of course Lee Iacocca was an honorable man, and paid the loan back early. Even the slugs in the UAW made concessions to keep their lazy inept butts working.

Fleet sales are not a good indicator of the quality or appeal of a vehicle. Individuals shop for, and choose a vehicle from the selection available. Well at least most people do. Not Eddie1278 since his pool is defined by GM.

Avis doesn't shop for mid-size cars one by one. They buy 20K (or whatever the number is) at a special price directly from the manufacturer.

Yes it is still sales and revenue. But it is not as good an indicator of the brand's desirability. It helps an automaker keep the factories running.

If Chrysler had been allowed to fail the first time, American industry would have learned that they must excel in the marketplace they operate it. No excuses. GM, Chrysler, etc. would not have spent 20-30 years coasting, relying on loyalty and low fuel prices to keep their sales going.

What your failed ideal refuses to recognize is that those lost jobs would have been replaced by lower wage foreign manufacturers that would have only accelerated what's occurring today that you support. This race to the bottom for the American working class wouldn't be such a bitter pill except for the sheeple that buy into the concept as a way to improve America. Good luck to the young foolish sheep that ascribe too failed policy.
