jaypee, whats your thought on convertible versus non-convertible?
I think if you're an ugly guy, don't get a convertible.
If you're going to get a convertible, don't get one of these (I don't know if they make these anymore so talk-to-the-hand if you're going to try and correct me) : Miata, VW Golf, Mini Cooper, VW Beetle, Toyota Solara, Nissan Murano, Corvette (well, unless you're a porn movie producer) etc.
Miata is a great convertible. The retractable hardtop version is sweet, and the car handles like it's on rails. They're not expensive which is most situations is a good thing.
If you want a new Audi convertible, get the S5, not the TT.

ok, so the Audi TTS above is borderline ...
This sounds like the advice of a non-enthusiast (or at least someone who knows little about cars).
After digesting everything in this thread, although there is truth to every brand stereotype, in the end, it is the person that makes the car not the other way around. Extreme divergences such as a young urban professional driving an 80s wagon (like i wish to do) just means the person has to work a little harder to overcome the stereotype.
Is this about the right assessment?
It seems like every brand has a stereotype, and if you avoid all of them there is nothing left to drive!
Dude, get a MKVII Golf R. It's coming stateside in a few months, starts at 34 grand, loaded is probably ~38-40. 300hp stock, AWD, and a basic stage 1 tune will bump it's numbers up to ~390hp and 400lb/ft. It's classy, doesn't scream "LOOK AT ME, I'M LOADED AND THEREFORE IMPORTANT", but it's still a performance car with a great (audi) interior and understated yet good looks externally. You can park it anywhere and not be worried about it. Also you can haul people and stuff around with it so it's not useless like a roadster would be.
It's been out in Europe for a year or so and all the reviews and feedback from owners is overwhelmingly positive. VW nailed it with this new R.
Nothing hurt my feelings. I just don't like closed minded people.
How is my recommendation and opinion about car image closed-minded and yours isn't?

You must be hurt because it seems you are taking an irreverent thread too seriously.
So, let's see ... You are 26, have not dated in 4-years --- and 'loaded' enough to buy a $100K car, but, have chosen to drive a Vespa scooter; and you want a car that says, "I'm loaded, but, not with new money."
