I like it. He could be happy - he sings during the occasional shower. Should I leave out a plate of doughnuts?

Default noise now revealed to be low chirp

It snowed today and I gave it a good listen based on what people said.

The noise now seems to me to be metal on metal contact. Also, low chirp would be a more accurate description than low whistle. As speed increases, the individual chirps blend together to sound like a whistle. In case this gives anyone more ideas. Thanks everybody for the ideas so far.

Some disk brakes have a thin sheet metal splash shield on the inboard side of the disk. Refer to item 11 on this exploded parts diagram: 1997 BMW E30 E28 E34 Rear Disc Brake Caliper Components and Parts Diagram | Car Parts Diagram

Running over a piece of road trash can bend a shield. Perhaps that shield has been bent enough to touch the disk. This condition has an easy "fix" -- just bend the shield back where it belongs.
