I prefer the styling of the Altima over Camry. Also, Camry is such an appliance car. Altima looks more sporty. It also looks like there are better deals on the Altima. I must say I haven't driven either one. So, what do you think?
There is still a big question mark over the Altimas CVT transmission. There's been quite a few failures. As for sportiness, the Altima is sportier, but the camry will have the better longterm reliability.
I stay away from CVT cars. Of the two, I'd pick Camry for that reason alone. I went with the Hyundai Sonata. Lots of technology at a lower price with a better warranty.
I have never driven a car with CVT but I also realize that a meme develops which people keep repeating without first hand knowledge or experience. CVT has been in many cars for some time now. Infintis have CVT. How could they continue to use technology that fails so often, if it does?
i have driven both, but i have owned 4 camrys. camry is a superior vehicle in my opinion. i agree, i have rented or test drove nissans on several occasions because of styling, but i have never owned one.
I don't go by manufacturer, I go by particular makes and trends based on the generation of vehicle. Honda and Toyota both have their off years... Honda made some bad transmissions prone to failure in some models... Toyota had some water pumps prone to failure in some, along with their 2.4L engines 2008-2009 burning oil..
According to Car Complaints site this model, the Nissan Altima, has problems with their CVTs. Honda on the other hand's seem to be more reliable and doing alright. I would play the odds and not buy the Altima..
I personally I'm looking at either a Camry XLE with V6 or an Impala (2014 or 2015) 2LT with V6. Both have 6 speed slushboxes. I respect Honda because they still put transmission dipsticks in their models even their CVT models which makes it much easier for average joe mechanic to maintain their transmissions though.... on the other hand they have uncomfortable seats, and it's something mentioned a lot as well...
Plus Hondas are just more expensive for what amounts to the same components at least for my taste.. I'd rather have the Camry's interior in the LE trim vs the Accord's LX.. and they don't depreciate enough for me to want to go to a higher end model.. more bang for the buck found in Camry/Impala.. I've ruled out Ford Taurus and Fusion as being inferior to the Impala.

Rental fleets love the Altima. I equate them with rental cars for that reason. Same with the Chrysler 200. Camrys are an appliance car.
