My son received a ticket for not having a front plate registration - is this something that we can ask for court supervision? Does this even affect our insurance rate?

It shouldn't be considered a moving violation or have any points associated with it. He should be able to just pay the fine and be done with it. Call the court house and find out to verify.

What about out of state folks from states where no front plate is required? Do they still pull them over?

Perhaps. With some time and experience you can determine which states have two plates and which states have one plate.

Also, AAA prints a guide that hands out that sort of information.

Our state issues rear plate only and when I'm out of state occasionally a cop will do a U-turn and follow me for awhile till they check and find out we're a 1 plate state. I've never been stopped.

^^^^^
If a cop is making a U turn because he sees a car without a front plate, he's having a REALLY slow day of enforcing laws or answering 911 calls.

I have lived in Front Required as well as Rear Only License Plate States . . . OBEY THE LAW.

There should be absolutely NO issue whatsoever.
