We have been car shopping recently and it seems like EVERY car that is not a base model is loaded with chrome!

We used to call chrome the "auto zone special" and it use to only grace beaters in the not so great areas of town.

Chrome door handles are awful, they show fingerprints. Does anyone actually like the blinged out chrome look?

Yeah, and when you set out to dechrome the car you seem to just find more and more heh. Not a fan either. But not as bad as gold trim/badges.

Other than small strips for brightening up the exterior, chrome is nothing compared to 30-40 years ago when you had big chrome grills, bumpers, etc.

The only chrome on my Charger is the "D O D G E" emblem worked into the taillight fixture. The rest of badging isn't even chrome (it is a satin finish silver).

It's SHIIIIINY! Peeps don't know that not all that glitters is not gold.
OP, seriously. It's appealing to low taste, as anything else shiny. Simply tells you level of average buyer taste. To the point that now even HONDA chromes its cars.

What looks worse is the people who put Plasti-Dip over the chrome to try to cover it up.

News for all of you:
Nothing is chrome on newer vehicles.
It is plastic painted or dipped in an acrylic paint to resemble chrome.
If it were real chrome, that would add thousands to the price of a new vehicle.

Bob.

On my Challenger, it's the rear D O D G E and the fuel filler door only, no other chrome. Also very little on my wife's Escape, just thin strips around the side windows and the little fake vents on the front fenders.

I think it's tacky. Possibly the tackiest feature of the 7th generation Corvette is that nasty chrome piece going across the front grill.

Chrome wheels are tacky, look wannabe rich like you're trying to say "look at me!"
