Mounting and balancing tires is a no-brainer. Any shop with the equipment will do it properly.

Tirerack is reliable and will ship the tires to where you want them mounted and balanced, but they're certainly not always cheaper.

I get my tires made by an artisan vulcanizer with a small shop in Lawrenceville.

In addition, DiscountTireDirect.com (not to be confused with Discount Tire) is another cheap alternative that usually includes free shipping.

It is so hard to find someone who still makes their own tires, That art form almost died off in the 1890's

I've had good experience with Tirerack.com. The tires always arrive three days after I buy them. You can see if they have the tires in stock when you order them. They carry virtually every tire manufacturer. Monroe Muffler mounts the tires for me. I have them shipped to my house and UPS leaves them against my garage door.

I have ordered tires a little cheaper from some other places. The shipping with tirerack.com is somewhat expensive and can wipe out any savings. I find you're likely to save more on more expensive tires.

Not entirely true. Some vehicles can be rather fickle unless your tires are road force balanced. While more shops have the equipment to do this now, many don't.

Hence I said "any shop with the equipment will do it properly".

I personally don't think it would be worth the hassle with a Honda Civic. Tire Rac is probably an alternative for other vehicles that aren't as common or if you are super picky.

People say Tower Tire in Blawnox is really cheap.
