The Toyota Avalon and Lexus ES are pretty much the exact same car.

I have the ES but I have never been inside the Avalon. I can assure you that you will have no doubt you are driving a luxury car. You can load up an Avalon to cost as much as the ES but you might as well go for the Lexus.

Infiniti was botched from the start.
Remember the Rocks and Trees ads at the beginning that never showed the Q45? Stupid!

Acura had recognized names (Legend, Integra) and people liked those cars.
Just like Lincoln, they threw 'em away in favor of stupid numbers and letters that mean nothing.
So now all Acura means is "Gussied Up Honda".

Lexus got out this giant ugly stick and hit all of their cars in the face with it.

Acura, Infiniti, and a few others never get to the crest they are trying for, IMHO. Most of those dealers are typically in a high people concentration zone, along with all of the other brands. They do not have dealers in the stix where most people live to commute 2 hours to get to work. Also, some of these brands aren't really worth it, they are pretenders.
Lexus, though it does share some components with Toyota, is a totally different creature.

It all comes down to what you expect the vehicle to do and accomplish for you, then find the one you want and can afford.
Just make sure to service it by the owners manual, so many forget to do this and long term gremlins arise causing woe and brand unsatisfaction.

When Lincoln canned Mercury, they basically killed their rural dealers.
Cadillac likes to threaten them with big dollar dealership upgrade requirements.

This makes no sense. Why mess with them? There's no competition!
Apparently these big city execs think there's nothing but poor dirt farmers out there.
No... they only look like that. Many a farmer's bank account says otherwise.

RSX was just a Civic with a different body and leather. In Japan, it was still called the Integra.

they took aware the flagship, big body models, and the cult favorites are not cutting edge any more. people bought lexus infinitis and acuras for reliability and cutting edge flash for the times.

for lexus, the big deals was the ls400,clean classic style, big body, built to last, the same with acura legend/rl but the infiniti Q45 fell off some where, and was a basically rebadged toyota.

when the infiniti qx 35/45 and the g35, it was game over for the big body, same for the lexus with their land cruiser version, and the MDX became the new flagship for Acura.

bring back my Japanese, lincoln towncar L sized luxury car. the germans seem to be the only ones making them nowadays.

The smaller representative of the initial two-sedan Lexus lineup was designated the ES 250, and powered by the Camry's 2.5 L, 116 kW (156 hp) V6............ooops same engine as a Camry!

The second-generation ES shared its design with the new generation Toyota Windom (XV10), which was officially announced in Japan on 30 September 1991......oops shared design with a Toyota again!

From 1992 to 1996, chief engineer Kosaku oversaw development of the XV20 Lexus variant alongside the XV20 Toyota Camry programme under project code 416T...........same engineer oversaw both cars again!

As development on the XV30 Camry began in 1997, development of the MCV30 commenced under chief engineer Kosaku Yamada, with styling being done through 1998 under design chief Makoto Oshima.......wow once again Camry and Lexus developed together again!

The next generation, XV60 series Lexus ES was revealed on 4 April 2012 at the New York International Auto Show.[74] For its sixth generation, the model was introduced in gasoline-powered ES 350 and gasoline-electric hybrid ES 300h versions. The ES 350 came with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid ES 300 models came with an eCVT. The redesigned ES and the Toyota Camry (XV50) still share the same platform........blasphemy! The Camry and the Lexus are the same car once again!

In the big picture the Japanese luxury line hit the price ceiling.....the price point was getting to be where a German luxury car was! The bottom of the market was being eroded by Korean car lines like Hyundai's Genesis. Suddenly the Japanese cars were being seen as too expensive!
