Wife bought a car from Hertz last year, we got enough rewards points from that to have a free 4 day rental. We rented a 2016 Jeep Compass. Last time I drove a car with such bad horse power was a 1980s econ box w/o fuel injector. You could literally only pass going down hill. It made my 2005 Camry feel like a Corvette. Otherwise the Jeep was fine lol.

From the mid 80s through early 2000s I used to vacation from U.K. to the Florida Gulf Coast, at least once, sometimes twice per year.
From maybe 1990 - 1994 we stayed in various rented houses in Spring Hill, Hernando County.
I'd make a reservation with Dollar or Alamo for a luxury car, as the girl who is now my wife had a large car by British standards, and I'd become accustomed to the feel of luxury.
On arrival at Tampa International, after filling out the required forms, the desk clerks would say, "Go to the parking lot, and take any car in the luxury lanes."
If there was one available, I'd always go for a Lincoln Town Car, they felt good, and she used buzz up and down U.S.19 like Mario Andretti.
We'd go out to dinner almost every night, and always started at the same bar on Shoal Line Blvd., there my lady would have maybe one glass of wine, then we'd drive to a restaurant, she'd switch to Club Soda and be the designated driver.
I drank Stolychnya vodka, lots of ice, a splash of tonic, and no fruit.
Every time we went into the regular first bar, the owner would have my drink on the bar, and be pouring my lady's wine.
One night I said, "How come you've always got my drink on the bar, Steve?"
He said, "You're the only guy that comes in here on a regular basis that can afford a Town Car, so when it comes on to the lot, I know it's almost certainly you."
Last year we rented a loaded Camry and drove it all over the Vegas area and it was a nice rich feeling car.
I have never owned a sedan so wouldn't buy one but it was nice enough.
In Ireland we rented one of those Hampster (remember the ads) Kia crossover thing and I really liked that. It was fun.
Another time we had a Volvo wagon and a Peugeot something that were only so so.
Rented cars for years on my drive across PA. The guys at Hertz would put aside a top vehicle for me as a top renter. Christmas tip didn't hurt. Had a Chrysler Crossfire, huge blind spots and so small you couldn't change your mind in it. Gave me a Hyundai Genisius great ride. I will buy a used one once the four wheel drive ones are on the used car lots. Probably 25 years ago they gave me a Mercury Mercur a rocket ship. Had it up to 120 mph. That was a rental car!
We've been travelling pretty regularly from Louisiana to Houston TX for the last few months, and renting to do that.
We borrowed our daughter's '15 Camry a couple times, and it was fine if a bit loud.
Had a '16 Altima that was ok, about the same as the Camry but quieter and with some extra safety stuff, maybe a tiny bit bigger.
By far the best rental we've gotten was a '17 Chrysler 300. All the bells and whistles, super quiet, much better mileage than either of the smaller cars, surprisingly.
I'd buy one.
Rental car--a Mini Cooper. Did not like it. I am a short woman, even me at a red light had to bend my head down to see when the light would turn green. Did not like it at all.
Chevy Suburban rental, probably a 2016 or 17, had only 14K miles. Felt like driving a small house. Thankfully it was equipped with a backup camera. Worked well for moving the stuff we needed to haul. I would never buy something like this, even if I could afford it, too ginormous of a vehicle for me.
