Only in True positraction which is very rare because you have a hard time making turns.
I stated it poorly. I did not mean they should both turn at the same speed -- not necessarily at all. What I meant was that it is not normal for one to be locked up and the other can be turned.
Question: I have a 2004 Ford Crown Vic LX. I have a tick-tick noise coming from the rear end and as I drive faster, the noise increases in velocity and it gets louder. Its currently in my backyard and the 2 rear tires are jacked up in the air. As I'm trying to troubleshoot the problem with the noise, I found another weird issue. When it's in drive the right rear tire spins but the left rear tire won't if I tried to manually spin it myself. When it's even in park I can spin the left tire, but when it's in gear, it won't spin. Any thoughts?
1. Never work on a car that is up on jacks. You should have timbers under it, not jacks or jackstands.
2. If you do not know that a car has a differential that does this, maybe you need expert help standing at your shoulder.
3. Sounds like your differential isn't differentiating or a brake is locked up. Get help.

Its normal if the truck isnt running and is in gear, in park, or you have the emergency brake on.
