That's what makes non-union workers so much better than union workers, especially UAW workers. A few years ago, Chrysler fired a bunch of UAW workers for going out and drinking and smoking pot during their lunch breaks, as any decent company would. Unfortunately the UAW made them take them back!
I feel the UAW is the main culprit for the Detroit 3 making such bad vehicles and is the cause of most of their problems.
IMO, unions are counter productive to businesses. I worked for a company that later on went union. We in the office were non union, just the plant. Everything changed for the worse. I could not even enter the plant unless accompanied by a union worker. It was like a totally separate company and it was them against us.
So firing under performing workers is a sign of a bad thing??
When you wait until the annual review to terminate an employee, that many employees it's telling.
The bay area labor market is tight, the cost of living is high. It's easier to replace under performing employees as one at a time vs. firing 400-700 of them all at once.
