Just saw a segment on Motorweek on this prototype device. Looks like a tablet. The proposal is for police to have this tool in their patrol vehicles. When one is pulled over for suspicion of distracted driving, the police can use a cable to connect the tablet to the smart device. It will show the recent activity without showing who was called nor the text of the messages.
The segment said some states interested in the device are already working on giving police authorization without a warrant similar to a breathalyzer. The fact that no personal information; such as who was called, who was texted, nor the content of the text; would be shown nor stored in the device. It only shows the time and date of calls and text being made to show the officer if you were using the device while driving since distraction from smart devices is as dangerous or more dangerous than drunk driving.
Distracted driving is by far more dangerous than speeding.. eventually it will catch up to people via accidents, higher insurance rates, and the like. Just let nature take it's course. If they cause a death, karma will hang over them... you can see the texting while driving types already replying to the OP's post ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
All that has to be done is have a chip installed in all mobile devices, that would lock the device, once it senses motion.
Bob.
And how's that going to work out for the tens of thousands who use public transportation daily?
