Past vehicles and current vehicles that you have owned, what is your average mpg on the highway?
The 1996 Accura RL that we have has the best mpg of the other two vehicles that we have and it has 22 mpg on the highway while the 2004 Jeep Wrangler has 19 mpg and our 1999 Ford F250 XLT Super Duty 7.3 diesel crew cab has 16-17 mpg. The 1990s (either 1994 or 1995) Dodge Dakota that we had had about 26-27 mpg and that truck had very good gas mileage and I still miss that truck to this day. I don't know about the previous vehicles that my parents had though.
Best was a 2000 Celica GT 5 speed that I would average 40mpg on the highway(straight flat Ohio highway).
Worst was probably my 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Rated for 21 highway but never calculated as no one cared about mpg back then when gas was $0.99.
Current is a 2018 VW Tiguan which is outperforming the EPA test numbers and getting right around 30 highway.
I've only taken one trip so far in my 2017 Toyota Corolla. It got 42 MPG. Around town, it gets between 35-36. The worst MPG I ever got in any car was in my 1978 VW Microbus. It always got 20 MPG whether on the highway or around town.
I never care about gas mileage because it's not one of my criteria for buying a car. I buy what I like to drive, usually big American cars with V-8s.
However, I noticed that my newly acquired 2011 Crown Vic has one of those gas mileage gauges that today told me I was getting 18.8 mpg in city driving. I imagine I'll get 22 mpg or so on the highway.
I have a round trip highway drive tomorrow and I'll see what it says.
I had a 2006 six-cylinder Infiniti M35x (AWD) for 10 years. Got 18.5 mpg. 18 months ago, I traded it for a 2016 CLS 550 Quattro (also AWD). It's an 8-cylinder, the first I've ever owned. I felt a little guilty about moving up to a bigger engine. But turns out I get 21.5 mpg. So I'm pretty pleased.
