Here in Florida, batteries generally go about 3 years, because of the heat. But I recently changed a battery in a car I built and I never checked it because it is hidden up under the car. When I got it out it was still working fine, but I thought I better change it anyway. The date on it was 9 years ago ! That is REALLY old here in Florida.

So, you never know how long one will last.

i had a 1985 bmw that had the same battery until totaled in 2005. i've had 2005's and 2013's that needed new batterys within 4 - 5 years.

i think with car alarm/blutooth/keyless ignition/backup sensors/backup cameras/... needing juice, the battery never fully rests. the 1985 i had, once the metal key was out of the ignition slot, the radio, windows, ... had no power.

I dont keep vehicles very long. Of the last 15 vehicles I have owned only replaced a battery on two of them. It was the same SUV, the big Infiniti 6k pound high electrical use one. I live in Texas, summers are hot here too which shortens life. My OEM lasted 5.5 years on this one, Independent shop replaced it with a brand I am not familiar with and it died after 2 years. In fairness this was after we left the switch on the headlights in on not auto off as we generally do. Battery went dead and when AAA charged it, it went dead again in a week. He tested the battery and said it was ok. I had the dealer put the Infiniti parts batter in it recently.

Of the other vehicles oldest one was around 5 to 6 years and no issues with any of them despite living in Texas and having one other large SUV out of the 14 cars.

Bronco battery is now 13 years old. The shortest I ever had was a Delco. It lasted 6 days. It was also the last Delco named battery I'll ever own. Like everything with a GM label on it, they wouldn't stand behind the warranty because I didn't keep the receipt.

I couldn't say for sure what the longest has been, but I remember pretty distinctly that batteries in my turbo PT Cruiser lasted only 15 months. It was like clockwork.

Honestly, my vehicles usually get sold or dies before the battery.

I do my best to keep the charging pathway to the battery optimal........clean, tight and free of defects. Just occasionally pull the battery out for inspection/maintenance and a conditioning-charge.

The battery on my Geo Metro lasted 14-yrs, in icy cold Boston. The car rusted out & needed burial at sea before the battery failed. It wasn't the OEM... I bought a new battery within 6-mos of owning it. However, I only put 50K miles on the car in all that time... unsure if that made a difference?

For me, most batteries last 7-yrs, just after the 6-yr warranty expires. Just replaced the OEM battery on my 2011 Honda CRV. A month ago, I got an oil change & tires rotated & it turned out I only had 4% battery power left, so before I headed across the CA desert, I bought one with another 6-yr warranty. So, I guess in 2025, I'll need another.

i bought a battery from AAA last year, and it is warranted for six years, we shall see.

Heat is the enemy. I used to routinely get six or seven years regularly out of a battery before moving to Florida, now it's three years.

This excellent graphic from Toyota is spot-on, IMO.
