I wouldn't normally recommend this for a 10 year old, but I have found hundreds of groups on Facebook pertaining to all kinds of motorized vehicles.

Perfect, thanks again. I'm leaning towards a yes for one of those, even though there will be articles such as the one you posted every now and again.

His passion for this supersedes a questionable article that appears every so often. And he needs to understand how to handle it.

Objectification of women is a no but cursing is not a deal breaker. Will see if the wife agrees.

Great input.

Thanks. He's not allowed to be on social media yet. And I don't think he'd be interested in a discussion. It's more the pictures and some high level info pertaining to performance he's after. You know...more sparkly content. Thanks again for the thought though.

burdell is right, at ten years old he would be better off reading magazines like hot rod, car craft, popular hot rodding, street rodder, custom trucks, etc. back in the day, the early 70s, i loved to read 1001 custom and rod ideas.

as for the general ones that deal mostly with new cars, i gave up on them long ago as they pretty much no longer fit my interests, but automobile magazine is one of the best out there right now, it was founded by the guy that made car and driver the best back in the late 70s.

Interesting posts so far . . .

I have subscribed to the "Big Four" plus AUTOMOBILE for many years and although very similar . . . my recommendation would be for AUtOMOBILE.

As far as the negative language is concerned . . . not perfect but probably no better or worse than what a 10 year old is hearing on TV nowadays.

Good Luck.

I read Car and Driver regularly and Motor Trend occasionally. There is not a lot of major swearing in either magazine beyond the more mundane words (which are pretty limited to begin with), but I'd say two or three times a year I will run across a four letter word starting with s or f in Car and Driver. They haven't had any objectionable ads in a long time though. Motor Trend will generally censor the words you can't say on radio or TV, but will regularly include more objectionable ads in the advertisement section. I have seen both language and ads in Automobile.

Haven't read Road & Track in ages, so not sure what it's like anymore. Given what you've shared so far, I'd probably recommend Car and Driver if you're not as concerned about the language as you are the ads.

Hemmings.

All the rest is just so much sales literature.

Do those (hot rod, car craft, etc.) that you mention have women in suggestive outfits or poses?

He might like the sales stuff. Remember, it's for a 10 yr old boy who is very into flash and jazz like that. He probably won't even read most of the articles or might read a couple paragraphs here and there.

The sales stuff may actually be more of what he's after - flashy photo's, high level info, short and to the point phrases.

When I was a kid I used to get Motor Trend and Automobile. I still have some of those issues from the early 90’s.

I decided last year to subscribe to Motor Trend again, but it’s a bit of a disappointment lately. Seems like most of the reviews and articles focus too much on the tech stuff and not enough on the way the vehicle drives and performs. Sign of the times I guess.
