I do 80-85mph here in Connecticut. Cops usually don't mind unless it's 85+ on a busy highway. 80 is the norm now, given that cars are more than capable of reaching such speeds. Speeds Limits are not going to be raised here due to trucks and school buses are mandated to go 50mph on the Interstates.

Interstate 26 in the Carolinas is a nice highway but it has holes in it that just about swallowed the 20" wheels and tires on my F150. You have to be some kind of stupid to drive 60 on it in a small car. The holes are big enough to put a small car on the frame and at speed could be extremely hazardous.

Put a deercatcher on your front end if deer are your worry!

So...I guess that Wile E. Coyote didn't see the "Deserted Highway, No Critters Nearby!" signs?

I've driven CT freeways and going anything under 80 would've been dangerous. Seventy to 80 seems the norm on lots of interstates, whatever is posted.

I live in Jersey and occasionally drive to Pennsylvania. I average 75-80 on the interstate. A few years ago I made an all night drive to Ohio and did 85 almost the entire way out. Other than 18-wheelers, almost no other cars on the highway.

Can you donate a petty amount of money, so I can fix my lowly cvpi?

One of my favorite times driving was from Brooklyn to here, Had that uhaul pegged at 75, almost no cars but rigs, and the only cops where the ones blocking the last toll out of there. Got it up to 80/5 and got passed by a rig doing what I suspect was about 110, at one point in maryland I think.

This all depends on the car and its capabilities.

In a clunker or small car, probably not over 80.

A big luxury sedan, easily 100+.

My car feels better the faster you go; my SUV will cruise fast just fine but it doesn't feel made for it.

Years ago I drove in Montana when there was no speed limit there. When there was no traffic I drove about 100 mph. That was about as fast as I was comfortable driving in my car. If I had had a better high performance car, I would have probably been doing 120 - 150. Why not if there is no traffic and you have a good car that can handle the speed?

I will hit 85 at times when passing on a 70 mph freeway, but normally will set the cruise at 73. There are times when no other vehicles are in sight on a long straight highway that it's tempting to go 120+ but not worth the risk of getting an expensive ticket or hitting an animal crossing the road.
