Some plunger material where you just put the gas station nozzle in.
Except: All Fords now come with a plastic funnel hidden some place in the vehicle. Because gas can nozzles not able to get through the capless opening.

So how much weight savings have been accomplished with this set up?
It was originally done to the mustang first, and it was inspired by stock cars. Then it went across the line with the rest of the performance line up and then the f150.

Our 1.6 Escape is hardly a performance car, and has the capless gas tank, so maybe all Fords do now?

Yes even a Focus I rented had no gas cap it’s a cost cutting measure that’s why ford did it. People fall to realize that for every penny savings in the making of a vehicle turns into the millions of dollars cost savings just buy the amount of vehicles produced every year.

Yeah. I was saying the performance cars got it first, starting with the mustang, then the fseries and everything else followed. All of them have had it since 2016 pretty much.

It was also inspired by NASCAR.

And a cost cutting measure, the only reason NASCAR has it is for quick fill ups i don’t think Ford was looking for their customers to fill up NASCAR style. They said hey if we go to just a flapper gas cap system look at the savings no more 2 pice gas cap and it’s faster and no more threaded gas tank fill neck and no more welding a bracket to gas cap door to hold cap when getting gasoline. Everyone of those steps is a cost savings when you add up how many vehicles they make every year. Some on here don’t have a clue on how the big3 try to cut cost with their suppliers, suppliers are operating on a very thin profit margin.
