If you are okay with that size, then you can either get a hatchback, or a light pickup truck.
If you need more space, a full size truck or SUV does the trick.

There's just not a market in between from what I can tell...the "crossover" market flopped pretty decisively here.

Its morphed into the SUV market; there are three levels now - Small, Medium, Large.
Where can one find a light duty pickup truck anymore? They're all huge.

One example:

1995 Ford F150 regular cab SB
Wheelbase - 116.8in
Length - 197.1in
Width - 79in
Height - 71in
Weight - 3886lbs
Ground Clearance - 10.8in

- I had this truck, and it still felt big. I'd have loved a Ranger or Taco of that era.

2018 Tacoma access cab - Smallest available trim
Wheelbase - 127.4in
Length - 212.3in
Width - 74.4in
Height - 70.6in
Weight - 4195lbs
Ground Clearance - 9.4in

The new Taco is a full 15 inches longer than my F150 was, and 28 inches longer than the Ranger. Compared with a 95 Tacoma, (if you multiply the dimensions) the 2018 Taco has grown in volume by nearly 30%, weighs in at nearly 1300lbs heavier, and gets worse fuel economy than compact trucks from 20 years ago.

Trucks the size of earlier Ranger, Tacoma, Mazda B and S-10 simply don't exist anymore.

This is what I talk about all the time while pontificating on my love of UTE’s. I’d take a true “small” pickup over a UTE any day of the week, but we can’t even get those anymore. It’s crazy.

Our bedded vehicle options in the US are BIG, BIGGER, or really old. That’s it.

It basically is. Sport UTilty truck, just not a coupe utility vehicle.

I always hated tacos. I hate all full size trucks. Bring back a true sport truck like a S10 with a 450 HP V8. These tanks just keep getting bigger. I want a truck that does low 11's like my C6 Vette and is small like a S10. I would pay 60k for one.

The last one in our market, the Subaru Baja, sold terribly. I own #895 out of only around 33,000 produced globally. Granted, Subaru faced other issues surrounding this vehicle, but they'd have made improvements had it sold well (and more manufacturers would have taken notice).

Just south of us in Mexico, utes are extremely popular. RAM has a mini down there which would be my ideal vehicle but of course we cannot have it. Ford sells utes all over the world - except here. Brazil and Australia are huge ute markets.

I'm desperate for a replacement for my Baja in the next few years. Just really hoping one becomes available of the many rumors on the market. Otherwise, I guess I'm stuck looking at the "midsized" pickups which are really the full-sized trucks of 20 years ago.
Nobody really wants small pickups, so a CUV is laughable. Personally I love them and El Caminos, Rancheros, and Caadys have cult following. That's why the Ranger and Colorada dissapeared. And the new Colorado is almost as big as a Silverado. Midsize pick ups kinda fell out of favor, which is why I find how long the Frontier and Dakota lasted is amazing.

The new Ranger is going to be bigger than the previous Ranger.

Just like the Colorado that replaced the S10 in 04 and the newer one is ugly and no V8 like my 2010 V8 Colorado.

Too bad this didn't get made.

They would've sold many.
There are a number of pictures of converted HHRs floating around on the web.

I doubt all those SUVs could handle all those Mormons and their wives. You did say "Utes".
