As part of down sizing I sold my old pick-up truck. Now I find that living in suburbia I really miss having a truck for things like hauling landscape supplies, taking stuff to the dump, picking up goodies from estate sales, and carrying the mower or grill somewhere.

So what would be a small two door pick-up that might even be narrow enough to fit in a suburban garage? Not lifted, not necessarily 4WD, but something small and with an open bed for occasional outdoor needs?

What brand of truck did you have before? Start there.
Next up is to ask your mechanic buddy which is easiest to work on.

If you have a part-time need for a light pickup, why not just rent one as needed?

The Frontier fits in my garage. Anything like a Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma, etc...is about the same size.

In this state (Indiana) mini pickup trucks are street-legal. You see them hauling around landscaping supplies.
Suzuki, Daihatsu and other names you don't see on cars.

I had an S-10 some years back. I traded it for a real SUV (not a crossover) and was much happier. It could haul people or cargo as needed. It was a mid size which they don't make much any more.

Or, buy old Volvo station wagon and convert it to truck.

Early 2000's Toyota Tacoma. Not tiny, but not big at all. Holds it's value, all Tacoma's do. It's the best looking truck, but clueless how they drive.
