Depends upon the situation. The family car is a sedan (with fold down rear seats), my personal car is a 2-door convertible, I borrow a truck about once a year.
This is sure not to give a representation of the market at large.
I posted coupe. I love sporty coupes and sports cars. I do appreciate SUV's for what they do, and my daily is a sedan (Charger) because it is easier for my kiddo to get herself in and out of a sedan then fight with crawling into the back of a coupe daily.
In terms of what I need in a car, with having a family i prefer a sedan type car over an SUV. Not sure exactly why but I just prefer the lower slung look rather the the high up profile of an SUV.
If I didn't have a family then a small hatchback or coupe would be fine for my needs.
$250,000 supercar might be nice but I don't think it's a priority.
I'm in my early 30's and I prefer 4 door sedans, sporty versions in particular. My next vehicle will likely be a cuv/suv due to safety. With so many lifted pickup trucks and large SUVs around in my area I want to stand a chance of coming out okay in a car accident. I feel my odds against serious injury or death are higher in a 4400lb vehicle, against a 5500lb pickup truck, than my current 3500lb sedan. Also traffic visibility is becoming a issue as a sedan driver. The Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer ST and the Honda Passport, are current SUVs on my radar to buy used in a few years.
I doubt the current market trend of Trucks and SUVs and CUVs being the preferred vehicle changes, but the market percentage of sedans verses everything else will stabilize at some point.
