My rear window in my 4Runner would not go up so I took two leads and ran it from the battery to the window motor to raise it back up. While doing this I accidentally hit the wires and shorted them out twice. It totally killed the battery. I jumped it and the 4Runner started right up. I drove it a bit and went to a store, came out and it started right up. 4 days later and the battery is dead again. No lights, no nothing. I put a voltmeter to it and it currently reads .02 volts. Is it safe to say I killed the battery or could it be something else I killed? And why after I jumped was it ok for the day if I did kill it? Thanks.

Are you saying you touched the two leads together a couple times? Or are you saying you somehow connected the two wires and left them connected for some time. If it is the later, I would imagine you burned out the wires and maybe anything they were connected to, but if it is the former (a spark or two), I cannot imagine it did anything to damage the battery - or anything else in your car.

When I was still a young-un, I had a Mustang and the battery wasn't held in place by a clamp, and it shifted and the hot post contacted electrical ground on the adjacent fender skirt, and that electrode was vaporized instantly , and I needed a new battery.
You may have damaged the alternator when you did that. A bad diode in the alternator will drain the battery even when the car is not running. That might explain why it ran ok the rest of that day but was dead 4 days later.

In that case, pull the battery and the alternator and have them tested.
