I’ve always wanted to try that.

To get back to your original question, yeah, my guess is the fuel filter needs changing. Most decent DIY mechanics can do this in a few minutes. Shop should not charge you an arm and a leg either. Realize that a plugged or nearly plugged fuel filter can shorten fuel pump life.

Get familiar with Autohaus AZ if you are going to DIY. Good price on quality parts. If you do need a fuel pump, me, I always use Bosch on German cars.

I watched a video on it it’s simple enough you either have to Jack that side of the car up or put it on a lift.

Is the car throwing any codes?
I'm assuming you've a run code reader on the car before you bought it right?
Some of the cheaper code readers don't read Euro cars so make sure the reader does German cars.

I love the golf, but ya, vw's can be a pain in the butt at times. I owned a 2011 golf tdi a number of years ago and that car was so fun to drive. Super refined, probably my favorite car I owned. Had to sell it once we had our first kid and then two years ago I bought an older jetta thinking all would be well (since it appeared to be in great shape). It ended up having serious electrical issues about 6 months down the road and I dumped it soon after... made me sad b/c I want to like VW's so much but there's always something that comes up. Hope you get your issues figured out without spending too much $$$ OP.
