In seems like they are going more extinct here in the U.S more then anywhere else in the world.

IMO, I don’t understand how it’s people who call themselves car enthusiast and not want a manual gearbox.

I have 1997 and 2006 Miata/mx5 along with the oddball in my driveway... Pontiac Solstice. All manuals of course!

Most of the rest of the world uses manual standard transmission.

Having been in a taxi in different parts of the world. Most are manual transmission. With a few exceptions.
Better gas mileage they claim. And of course easier to fix if ever. Besides the clutch, of course.

I’ve had both manual gearbox’s and your standard automatic gearbox. I’ve had to replace a clutch but never the gearbox of a manual car before. Clutches are much cheaper to replace then a automatic tranny is.

Small motor cars do a lot better with a stick shift. Automatics absorb too much power.

What percentage of the market considers themselves to be "enthusiasts?"

For most people, they don't care about "connecting with the car/road, " or feel like they have more "control " over the car.

Driving manuals doesn't make anyone a better driver. Driving automatics doesn't mean the driver rides around texting. Both manuals and automatics can get stolen.

Driving a manual is a learned skill. I could learn how but I simply don't care. That doesn't make me a bad driver.

When I was in Germany, all of the ubers I took seemed to be automatics. The one driver I talked to about this though, said that he prefers manual for his own car, but they have to use company cars in Germany as opposed to the US where they can use their own.

I Europe, recently, I have seen a lot of Prius'es and also Teslas'. Funny that some of the Prius drivers kept "shifting" the gears.

I drive a 6 speed, Hyundai Veloster; wouldn't want an automatic.

But when I tried to teach my kids to drive manual, they said "That was a problem that they solved"- with automatics...
