I have been trying to help my mom get good new sedan. I am trying to find something has good performance for under $20k. Performance wise, I am thinking of something comparable or better than a 2000 2.4-I Galant ( 145 HP @ 5,500 rpm; 155 ft lb ) that she currently drives. She is rather speedy driver, in fact a lot more than me!
I was suggestion her to get the Hyundai Sonata 2.4-I (one I drive), however she thinks it is bit too big compared to her current Galant. She hasn't test drive the Sonata yet, but she just might like it. Any suggestions are welcome.
Get her into a Sonata with V6 ( around 250 hp), fast, quiet ,smooth engine). It only cost us $18,500, that includes ESC (electronic stablility control). Compare that Honda Accord or Toyota camry, its run you over$25,000.
Thats not a bad idea. I noticed the 2009 Sonata MSRP prices went up a bit. With $1,500 cash back the V-6 costs $20,745. Wonder if a dealer has 2008 Sonata around, they cheaper with bigger rebate.
Edited - Just checked local dealer has only 2009s, so its about $745 over the price limit my parents are trying budget with. Also, so say truth the V-6 Sonata is pretty powerful, not sure how safe it is left her drive it! Anyhow, I see what she thinks about it.
What's wrong with a Civic sedan? With gas prices only going up, why not pick a 4 cylinder car over one with a V-6? If your parents have a budget with the purchase price, they will care how much it costs to fill the tank up. Anyway, your mom drive stick? I've found that a manual transmission car harnesses the hp better than one with an auto tranny aka slushbox.

MSRP means NOTHING, you don't negotiate from that.
Find out the dealer's invoice price, then subtract any manufacture's rebate, also subtract any dealership's rebate if applicable. Add three to four hundred for the salesguy, he has to eat.
Don't tell them you have a trade in until the final price then mention you have a trade in.
Or if you (or Mommy or Daddy) are a Costco member, use their auto buying service.
