The newly released Toyota Crown sedan reviews say it sits higher than traditional sedans, seat height being closer to a small crossover. I remember the same being said of the Volvo based Ford Five Hundred.
That's cause we're not getting the new 16th generation Crown, we're getting the Crown SportCross which is a crossover. we aren't getting the Crown sedan or the Crown estate/station wagon. Those are Asia only.
I like sedans and wagons. I'm ambivalent about which I like better, since they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Next up: hatchbacks, CUVs, crossover pickups (Ridgeline, for example), followed by real compact trucks (pre-2004 Tacoma), then mid-size pickups, then body-on-frame trucks/SUVs with IRS. In dead last - by a wide margin - are full-sized body-on-frame pickups/SUVs with a live axle rear suspension setup. These turds should be illegal except for commercial or real farm use.
Wish more people drove traditional cars over SUVs and trucks they don’t actually need.
I think you have to pay strong attention to the article....they cost a lot less when people have a lot less to spend, and more importantly, in the time frame represented, you could not get a truck or SUV to save your life. as the supply chain eases, I expect this to reverse, but not pricing concerns.
After having driven an SUV for a few years, I don't think I'll buy a sedan in the future. But it's a type of car that should still be available, so I'm glad people are buying them as well. To be honest here in the D.C. area sedans never stopped being a significant presence just like trucks aren't as ubiquitous here as they're in much of the country.
I think wagons are kind of a different story. Wagons were already killed in the U.S. market by minivans, then minivans got all but killed by SUVs in turn. The German luxury wagons are a very niche phenomenon (and even in Europe not all that common except as fleet vehicles).

While I do need a full size pickup or SUV, I don't need one all the time, and would much rather be driving a sedan. My choice would be a CT5-V Blackwing.
I so wanted a Buick Regal TourX, or Cadillac CTS-V Wagon.
The Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo is pretty cool as well.
