Thing is, Britian, like most places in Europe, is a place where 80% of the people don't need a car. They never had as many stupid suburbs that we Americans have, and most people there live and work in the same town, and mass transit is amazing.
Our incomes have not been adjusted to the higher gas / diesel prices! Europe adjusted to this in 1972 and never let the market determine the price they just taxed the crap out of fuel!!! Then again Texas is bigger than any one of the European countries individually the just don't need to drive as far! And it is cheaper to build a public transportation network in a smaller place!
