I've had to reset it myself a couple times immediately after getting the oil changed. It seems some places don't reset it when they change your oil.

Try the gas pedal thing someday... it might just work!

GM Oil Life System Resetting
The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil - usually between 5 000 km (3,000 miles) and 16 000 km (10,000 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the CHANGE OIL SOON light may be displayed before 5 000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 16 000 km (10,000 miles) or 12 months without an oil change.

Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed, use the following procedure.
  1. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position.
  2. Fully push and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. If the Change Oil Soon light flashes, the system is resetting.
  4. Start the vehicle.
  5. The oil life will change to 100%.
  6. If the Change Oil Soon light comes back on, the system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
Good job budy,it worked perfectly on my Sylverado Z71 2004 5.3L.
Thanks you very much,best regards.

Same thing happens with my Honda Accord, damn oil change light comes on after about 2 thousand miles and brings up a percentage meter for how much mileage you have left before you have to change it. Doesn't bother me, but I can't de-program the wife to accept the fact that I prefer to change the oil at 5K not 3K miles, and seeing that little wrench lit up on the dashboard makes her crazy until the oil is changed. I'd like to get it reset to either not come on at all, or at least not come on until 5K miles...anyone have any suggestions?

Follow these easy steps:

1. Buy a roll of black electrical tape.
2. Cut off a piece about one inch long.
3. Apply the tape over the offending light.
4. Change your oil when necessary.

They said i could bring it in and they would "only" charge me 1/2 hour labor to shut it off. Is it that complicated, or are they trying to "F" me??? Any one know how to shut it off? Thanks
You need to give that dealer the boot. They are crooks and don't deserve your businesss. Tell your friends, too!
