Looking at the amount a car costs it looks like Kia and Hyundai usually has best prices for the features. That reason I bought a Hyundai Sonata 2 years back.

Looking at prices this year, looks like Kia has even better deals that Hyundai. With all rebates and watch not you can probably get Kia Optima for $14k or lower for the base. I was pricing Kia Optima and looked like for features like Auto Climate control, heated seats, Leathers it would be about $18k only for Optima. Other cars, including Hyundai, it would cost way over $20k to get Leather, Auto Climate control, etc.

One question is why can't other manufacturers compete with these prices? I am very sure some features like Auto Climate Control are very cheap to actually make. They seem to taking a big profit on all these features compared to Korean manufacturers.

Kia and Hyundai quality are pretty ok but not top, that might one thing other manufacturers have going for them. With there Korean long warrantly I don't think reliability is too much of an issue. Now, looking at price I can't seem to find any other major car makers that can beat Hyundia or especially great priced Kias.

As long as you plan on keeping it for 5-7 years, go for it.

Hyundai > Kia.

I am just not impressed with Hyundai or Kia. I owned an 03 Elantra and 03 Sonata and they were both pieces of crap. Resale values of Korean cars still aren't up to snuff in my book. I went around looking in the car lots yesterday and personally I found the Dodge Avenger to be more comfortable and better made than the Hyundai Sonata. I know that goes against all the reviews you read, but it didn't appear that way to me.

I've got a good friend who's a service/parts manager for a Kia dealer.

He says that both car-makers have come a LONG way, in the past 5 years, regarding quality.

Personally, if I were in the market for a new car, I'd look strongly at one of these two brands. They both carry a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. So put the car on a 3-year note, and know that you've got 7 years of payment-free, warranty-covered driving.

I think that's what getting a lot of people to buy them.

I plan on keeping as long it can drive. Our family keeps the car as long as possible, we don't usually trade-in our cars for new ones. For example, we ran out 94' Dodge Spirit till couldn't be fixed anymore, ended up going in salvage yard. In fact, we keeping our mom's Mitsubishi Galant (1999) even though it has hail damage + big accident and is total loss. 2 of door on Galant doesn't work, but we plan on keeping till it can't be driven anymore.

Definitely, high depreciation. But, as mentioned in my reply I plan on keeping cars till it can't be driven anymore. I think you get the MOST out of your car's value if just drive it to ground instead of trading up every 3 or 5 years!

Kia/Hyundia I defintely will admit isn't for those who wants new car every few years.

Yeah, but virtually every vehicle does that. Maybe not to the degree of the Kias & Hyundais, but you take a HUGE depreciation hit the moment you drive your new car off the lot.

Right. So, like I said, if I were to buy either of these cars, it'd be a new one - and I'd suck every last warranted mile out of it I could!
