Last car I rented was in April this years, a 2019 Hyundai Veloster with 40k miles on it. Smooth ride, quiet, terrific mpg from the 2.0 Non turbo motor and handle quite well.
On the freeway was where it was kind of weak. Could not handle the Texas freeways that well where people drive faster than Sh@t, really lacked passing power.
I think my favorite car rental of all time is the Nissan Versa Note hatchback.
I typically love renting vehicles that I would never own. It leaves me appreciating my own fleet of vehicles and it satisfies my curiosities about other cars. For instance, the last vehicles I rented were an 2016 Mazda Miata ND, 2018 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 (drove all around Maui in the off-season), & 2019 MB SL63 AMG. I like minimal and intuitive designs, but the seat massagers and counter-active seat bolsters of the MB were great for driving through wine country.
My next rental is a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD in Maui. The cost is $120 a day, though the total cost will be $222 after airport/delivery fees, and sky-high Turo insurance through Liberty Mutual. It's $50 a day to insure Turo cars because they have a monopoly on the niche market of short-term rideshare insurance...personal auto insurance does not cover this niche. Anyways, Hertz and Avis wanted $180 to rent a Kia Rio or $320 per day for a Jeep Wrangler...so Turo is the way to go. Besides, I'd rather give my money to a local Hawaiian than a big-box corporation during this challenging economic time.
Last car I "rented" was a 2020 Shelby GT500. Wasn't a typical rental that you would think, but I did pay money to drive it for a short period of time. A very short period of time.
I got to take it around a road course track. What did i like about it? 760HP, foot to the floor, pulls like a freight train all the way to 140MPH and beyond. Can turn and brake quite well.
What didn't i like about it? That I had to give it back.

I think it was a 2019 Expedition, maybe 2018. Good power, hauled everything we needed it to do. Bad - I got a speeding ticket in it. That EcoBoost was quite powerful. Um, yea, thats what Im going with.
2020 BMW X5- fun and fast, great cabin comfort except for the whole black leather in Arizona thing, somewhat overly complicated infotainment system and required premium gas.

Or you could fill it with 87 and nobody would know the difference...........car will self adjust the timing and have slightly less HP (like 3-4 HP). Leased an Audi A8L (78K MSRP)........said premium, never got a drop of premium fuel in it the whole 3 years I drove it, ran fine for 49K miles.
I just drove a Plymouth Voyager minivan with a load of furniture and household stuff to Colorado mountain country. The thing corners like a barge. It’s awful in mountain country. It’s a stripped version of a Pacifica so it lacks essential features like adaptive cruise control that are essential on long trips. I had 6 hours of heavy rain driving from Columbus to somewhere in Missouri that was like driving through a car wash. The “change your oil” alert came on in Missouri. I decided to dump it at the airport in Denver and fly home. There’s a reason they call them flyover states.
Oh this is my topic, I use to travel 45 weeks of the year pre-covid so I had always had a rental car. My last rental was last week which was a 2020 Tacoma.
I always liked the looks of the Tacoma and was toying with the idea of buying one. As for the experience its not really that fun of a vehicle to drive, ergonomically speaking the radio controls are just down right annoying (coming from someone who uses the BMW radio controls which are truly the best in the world). Its a bit underpowered and alot of body roll for highway driving.
Does it make a good rental vehicle? No. Would it be a good truck to own? Yes.
These trucks barely depreciate and they shine in the areas that they are really good recreational vehicles on the beach, off-road and in the snow. So unless you're a doing these activities there are better options out there.
