I was in a auto accident 1-09. The at fault ins company totalled my car. I just got my vehicle registration renewel notice & all it says is to pay renewel fees. It dont mention anything about getting a salvage title, etc. I did report the accident to the ca dmv in 2-09. Im a lil confused here. I expected different.
If you never signed the title over to the insurance company, then it's still a clean title. All you did was accept a check from your insurance company less the buy back amount. The title was never actually involved in the process, so it's still clean.
I went through this a few years back on one of my trucks. It got totalled and insurance cut me a check for the amount minus the buy back. My title is still perfectly clean.
I received a letter from the at fault ins co after the property settlement stating that according to ca vehicle codes 11515(b) & 1678, if the owner of a total loss salvage vehicle retains possession of the vehicle they shall, within 10 days from the settlement of the loss, forward the properly endorsed certificate of ownership or other evidence of ownership acceptable to the dept, the license plates & fee in the amount of $18.00 to the ca dmv. The dept, upon receipt of the materials, shall issue you a salvage certificate for the vehicle. I never did that. I did mail the ins co a copy of my registration to receive the property settlement check.
Just pay your registration and don't mess with that other stuff. If your registration goes through fine, then you're good to go. If not, then I guess you'll need to send that other BS in.
